El primer encuentro.
I reworked the first panel from the first comicbook published in the U.S., The Adventures of Obadiah Oldbuck (1841) – originally drawn by Swiss francophone Rodolphe Töpffer in 1837. Drawn in Flash for the Agents of P.O.O.C. (Panels Out Of Context) show at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ. July-August 2003.
The first page from Töpffer’s original manuscript “Histoire de Mr. Vieux Bois” from 1827.
The first page from the pirated, translated, U.S. published “Adventures of Obadiah Oldbuck”, 1841. Thanks to Edizioni Napoli Comicon and Robert Beerbohm. First panel text is “Mr. Oldbuck’s first sight of his ladye-love.”
The first page of Rodolphe Töpffer’s 1839 “Les Amours de Mr. Vieux Bois”, Second Edition.
